Presenter: Loretta Wieczner, MS, CCC-SLP, a Certified Language and Speech Therapist and Special Educator, former PreK to Grade 2 Classroom Teacher, Educational Consultant specializing in play, language and literacy in the early childhood classroom.
The "hidden curriculum" in early childhood programs is the way adults support social-emotional development and the development of positive social behavior. Young children play so they can exercise skills and try out knowledge. As children bring their own life stories to the play we teachers can help expand these stories to enrich the play and positively influence social behaviors, as well as enhance skills in all other areas of development, particularly language and literacy.
